Kyrillos to Help Dedicate Jack Pinto Memorial Playground in Union Beach
Playground Part of Project by RAINE Foundation and NJFMBA to Honor Newtown Victims

May 3rd, 2013

Senator Joe Kyrillos will help dedicate a new playground at Firemen’s Park in Union Beach on Saturday, May 4 at 1 PM honoring the memory of Jack Pinto. Jack was just six-years old when his life was taken in the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

The playground, constructed by the RAINE Foundation and the NJ Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA), was built as part of the NJFMBA’s Sandy Ground 26, Where Angels Play Project which will create playgrounds honoring each of the victims of the mass shooting in Newtown.

“The RAINE Foundation and the NJFMBA have undertaken this spectacular project that will help commemorate the lives of children lost in an act of senseless violence,” said Kyrillos. “The Jack Pinto Memorial Playground will create a fun, safe place for local kids to play. The playground will be a living memorial to Jack and serve as a reminder that parents can hope for a day when our biggest worry is whether our children will scrape a knee or elbow while playing with their friends.”

Jack was an avid Giants fan and was buried in his Victor Cruz jersey. The playground honoring his memory has been built in his favorite team’s colors, red, white and blue.

“This project speaks to the amazing perseverance of the human spirit,” added Kyrillos. “The park honoring Jack’s life is a testament to the resiliency of the Union Beach community as they’re beginning to rebuild following the great devastation they experienced in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.”
