Front Street Bridge Renamed for Former Sen. Joe Kyrillos

MIDDLETOWN – Former state Sen. Joe Kyrillos was the rare breed of politician, beloved by Republicans and Democrats alike, who described him as a leader who always put the best interest of New Jerseyans first.

And those two sides came together Friday to honor his 30 years of public service as Monmouth County dedicated the West Front Street bridge that links Red Bank and Middletown as “Senator Joseph M. Kyrillos Bridge.”

“You’ve earned this,” New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney said. “The state of New Jersey misses you.”

Kyrillos was first elected to General Assembly in 1988, serving two terms there before moving to the New Jersey Senate began in 1992. Kyrillos announced in October 2016 that he was retiring from the state legislature at the end of his term in December 2017.
